  1. How does a water softener work?

Water softener contains a tank that uses minerals or resins to remove hard particles of lime and calcium from water. The minerals used in the tank have opposite electrical charge when compared with particles present in water. Because of the opposite charge, resin head attracts the water particles and they are this way removed from the water. In short, the water softener works on exchange base where the opposite charge-carrying particles are removed from water by minerals.

However, many companies are making water softeners that use less salt and ensure your diet contains a lesser amount of salt. A better softener will always use less salt.
